Campaign leaders for the United Way of Angelina County are sending out a loud thank you to all who helped raise more than $725,000 in just five short weeks.
The 2006 goal was $645,000. Nearly every division has reached 100% or more of their goal. "It emphasizes, once again, the dedicated, hardworking, generous community of Angelina County," says Campaign Chairman Tina Alexander Sellers. "The local United Way has a great team. The division chairs worked hard and the people and businesses responded. We're blessed to live in such a spirited-filled community. Of course, we're also elated and very thankful for everyone's contributions and support."
The United Way of Angelina County helps fund 23 local agencies. "That money stays locally. The real winners are the men, women and children of this community who will be helped by those agencies. The 23 agencies serve the people of our community who need their help the most."
Sellers says there were several bright spots throughout the campaign, but she says huge thanks go to Industrial Division Chairman Cecil Jackson. The individual goal for the industrial division was $250,000. They raised $333,517, or 133%. Of that amount, Lufkin Industries and its employees generated $280,000 alone.
Friday's final put the UW of Angelina County at $726,485, or 112%. It's not too late to make a contribution to United Way. Executive Director Carla Hight says donations are expected to continue coming in and that total could go slightly higher.
