Deer Hunting Safety Reminder

Hunters around East Texas are gearing up for the opening of deer hunting season. The season begins at sun up Saturday and goes through January.

Hunters and non-hunters are reminded to be courteous to everyone sharing the outdoors. Public hunting can be risky so 'hunter orange' should be worn. It's not required on private land but still a good idea.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Jim Yetter advised to, " Treat all your firearms as if they're loaded. When you are in the woods don't load your gun until you get to your stand. And when you're in your stand and if you're going to shoot be aware of your target and beyond your target. Don't shoot at movement or sound. Make sure you identify what you're shooting, think about what's beyond that and be real careful with your gun."
