Proud Of East Texas: Rockettes

The Radio City Music Hall Rockettes may not have been around as long as Santa Claus, but for almost three quarters of a century they've been one of our most popular holiday attractions. While New York may be a long way from Texas, Texas women have always played important roles in the Rockette tradition.

The Rockettes first kicked up their heels in 1933 at the opening night of Radio City Music Hall. Longview dance teacher Dottie Hunt was a Rockette from 1945 through 1947. She still remembers the experience as one of the most exciting times of her life.

Unlike the days when you had to go to New York to see the Rockettes perform, since 1994, due to popular demand, the Rockettes have been taking their Christmas Spectacular throughout the country. Their visit to the Nokia Theatre in the Metroplex gives Texans like Stephanie Dolph and Summyr Miller a chance to perform for family and friends.

The Radio City Christmas Spectacular will be at the Nokia Theatre at Grand Prairie from November 10th through December 3rd. For ticket information call 214-631-ARTS.

The Community Food Drive in Lufkin is special to some because of the large amount of people it brings together from all walks of life.  "It's just like so many different people, very diverse," said volunteer, Priscilla Gonzalez. "It's just kind of cool to see all these people coming together to do one thing." For others, like Keith Kennedy, it's all about the service being provided to the greater community. "They're in miracle territory,...More >>
