The Lufkin High School and Middle School Bands along with the Band Boosters will present the 12th annual Honor America Night on Saturday, November 11th at Abe Martin Stadium. This patriotic evening will begin with an All-American dinner of hot dogs, chips, apple pie and ice cream and a drink to be served in the Lufkin High School cafeteria from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
Then, at 7:00 p.m., at Abe Martin Stadium, the bands will perform in a tribute to America and its Veterans. This year, the Vietnam Veterans will receive special recognition during a reading of a letter written by Dr. Joan Samuelson of Kingwood College. Dr. Samuelson's tribute to Cpl. Michael McAninch was read at the 2000 National Memorial Day Concert in Washington D.C. Michael, a native of Houston, gave his life in 1969 while protecting his men from enemy attack. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat "V" and Purple Heart for his actions.
The evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display while the bands play patriotic music and Veterans from the military services are recognized. Tickets for the dinner and/or performance are just $5.00 and can be purchased from any band member, at Grizzly's or at the door/gate.
