A man who fled to East Texas after killing his mother has now pleaded guilty to her murder. Forty-six-year-old Carey VanBuren entered the plea in exchange for a 20-year prison sentence.
A week after the murder last March, VanBuren drove his mother's car all the way to Texas from New York. Tyler County authorities stopped him and charged him with drunk driving and later discovered he was wanted in connection with the killing.
VanBuren hit his 63-year-old mother in the head with a mallet at their home. He killed her after a fight and hid her body inside the house they shared in Perry, New York.
