The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team got 18 points from sophomore Natashia Green as SFA bounced Southern Mississippi, 69-62, in Hattiesburg. The victory improves SFA to 1-1 (.500) on the season. The Ladyjacks shot 14-of-30 (47 percent) from the floor in the opening half, while holding their opponents to a 9-of-25 (36 percent) performance, building a double-digit first-half lead. But the Golden Eagles rallied late in the half outscoring SFA, 14-4, to tie the game heading into intermission at 36.
Although the Ladyjacks cooled offensively in the second half shooting 32 percent, Southern Miss wasn¹t able to take advantage. The Ladyjacks opened the second half with a 7-0 rally to take back the lead, but USM rallied once again to reclaim a one-point advantage, 50-49, with 11:26 on the clock. The game remained close down the stretch.
The Ladyjacks were able to pull away late behind senior Charity Egenti¹s 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Anitria Mosley added 10 points and four rebounds. Junior Nikki Carr scored seven points and led all players with nine assists. The Ladyjacks return to action Friday, Nov. 17 when they will host Louisiana Tech. The game against the Lady Techsters is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. -SFA-
