A Nacogdoches man is facing felony charges after a traffic accident early Sunday morning killed three people and injured three others in Nacogdoches. Shaun Gilmore, 22, has been arrested for felony racing.
Gilmore and another driver were seen racing on North Street around one 1:00 Sunday morning. That's when a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Kenneth Thompson, 20, from the Brownsville area, pulled onto North Street. Thompson and his passenger, Kenneth Riehl II of Lufkin, died when their car was hit by a Mustang driven by Antonio Martinez. Martinez and a 16-year-old girl were released from the hosptial Monday. But their passenger, Jose Tomez of Lufkin, died and another passenger injured. Gilmore and his passenger were not injured.
Sgt Greg Sowell warned that, "Racing is dangerous at any time for all parties concerned. That includes people driving the vehicle, people that are riding in the vehicle, and the motoring public in general. It's against the law. It's a felony of the second degree."
Gilmore is out of jail on bond. The investigation continues and more charges are possible.
