Graveside services for Mrs. Merle C. Hobbs, 87, of San Diego, California, will be held Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Glendale Cemetery with Brother Elton Musick officiating.
Merle was born June 2, 1919 in Apple Springs, Texas, to Nellie Lee and John Walter Crow, and died Thursday, November 9, 2006 in California, after sustaining a head injury.
Merle's father was a deputy sheriff who farmed many acres near Apple Springs. He died tragically in April 1932 with Merle at his side following a gunfight in the small town.
Merle moved to Southern California with her husband during World War II. There, she enjoyed being a homemaker and gardener. She spent many evenings tending to her fruit trees, plants and flowers.
She is survived by her son, Roy F. Hobbs, II and brothers, Charles Crow and J. W. Crow, and three nephews all living in California
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Roy F. Hobbs; her infant daughter; her sister, Stella Hillburn, and her brother, Wilson Crow.
