Man's Home Destroyed in Fire

by Ramonica R. Jones

An Angelina County man lost his home and all of his belongings in a fire Monday morning. It happened just before 10:00 a.m. on Allentown Loop in Angelina County.

Perry Henson's dog was rescued from the fire, but he was not home when the fire started. Firefighters were able to put out the fire before it spread to his son's home right next door. Authorities are investigating the cause.

Central Volunteer Firefighter Angie Black said, "The owner said that he had ran up to Polk's and while he was gone - he was gone about 45 minutes - his son called him, said his house was on fire. He said he checked everything before he left. He had a wood burning stove but he made sure that it was closed and there was just a couple of coals in there. At this point, we're not really sure where it started."

The two-bedroom home was destroyed. Volunteers from the Central, Hudson, and Rivercrest/Redland fire departments helped put out the fire.
