City Leaders Want to Stop 'Red Light Runners'

by Ramonica R. Jones

City leaders in Lufkin are talking about installing cameras at several highway intersections. The goal is to avoid deadly traffic accidents caused by red light runners.

The council will hear a presentation about the traffic enforcement devices at Tuesday night's meeting.

The pictures taken by those cameras would show the license plate numbers of cars that run through red lights. A citation would then go to the home address where the car is registered.

If approved, those cameras would be placed at intersections that have a lot of traffic, like FM 819 at Highway 59 in Lufkin.
