Lufkin Dispatcher Recognized

The Lufkin Police Department is pleased to announce that communications operator Stephanie Davidson was recently honored as the Texas Telecommunicator of the Year by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO).

The award was presented at the Texas State conference by Texas Chapter President Keith Bickley.

Davidson was honored for her heroic actions while taking a 9-1-1 call from a kidnapping victim. The victim had been accosted on the highway, shot, kidnapped and sexually assaulted after her friend was murdered. The victim was able to call 9-1-1 and Davidson stayed on the line with the victim for over 45 minutes, strategically gathering information for that enabled law enforcement officials and EMS personnel to find the victim and apprehend the suspect. Davidson's actions are credited with saving the life of the victim.

Davidson is an eight year veteran communications professional, having served the last three years with Lufkin Police Dept.

"We are very proud of Stephanie and her accomplishments" said Lufkin Police Chief Larry Brazil. "She deserves this recognition. She's a great asset to the department and the community."
