The need for emergency food distribution is increasing. During the last two years, reports of hungry East Texans waiting longer to receive food staples for their families prompted KTRE to make feeding the needy one of our main concerns.
In September and October of 2005 and 2006, East Texans showed how generous they could be by donating thousands of cans of food during our food drives at the Texas Forest Festival and the Pineywoods Fair. These food drives went a long way, but we all still need to do more.
Thanksgiving is a time for most of us to count our blessings and show gratitude to others. It would be easy to make a difference in someone's life today.
Please do it now-find a few cans, some rice, some fresh produce, some cereal to help someone this week. You can give a cash donation.
Please take the time and make the effort to help your fellow East Texans. You can start by contacting the local food bank in your community.
