Many East Texans are flocking to area retail stores, looking for the perfect Christmas gift, but for some families who are less fortunate buying a lot gifts isn't possible. That's where the Lufkin Salvation Army lends a helping hand, but they can't help East Texans in need without your help. "The more money we raise, the more money is available to us to assist people in need," says Captain Hank Harwell.
Though the Salvation Army would like for you to make a contribution in the red kettles the charity is also looking for volunteers. "We would like to see more groups volunteer, a church group, a Sunday school class, a club at school or even an athletic team. What we want to do his have people who say I will take an hour slot," says Harwell.
Captain Harwell says volunteering at the Salvation Army is the greatest gift any East Texan can give. "I've had a number of people come to me and say it's just not Christmas unless I ring the bell for the Salvation Army," says Harwell.
