Panthers fall to Round Rock

The tears were flowing northwest of Houston due to an unexpected end to the Lufkin High School Football season.

There will be no state title for the Lufkin Panthers this year.

The Pack's dreams came to end Saturday at Berry stadium.  Lufkin 25 Round Rock 38.

Despite Lufkin's early exit, expectations are still high for next season.  Senior Lufkin players say the team is in good hands, but admit this loss really hurts.

"I love the Lufkin Panthers man, I love Lufkin High School. That's why it hurts so bad to lose and leave this team," said LP linebacker Cam Davis.

"The coaches will have them ready. The coaches will have them prepared it's just that the players out there have to be successful and do what the coaches tell us to do and that's what went wrong today," replied A.J. Penson, linebacker for the Pack.

"This team next year... you all be ready for them to come back and win state next year," speculated defensive tackle Randall Murphy.

One bright note this season for Lufkin was the tremendous amount of national exposure the team received.  Former Panther and current Miami Dolphin Rex Hadnot says his teammates in Florida know all about the Pack.
