Traffic on the loop in Lufkin came to a complete standstill Wednesday after a big rig burst into flames.
The 18-wheeler was headed south on Loop 287 near Denman Avenue when a fire started inside the cab. When the driver tried to get out of the 18-wheeler, it crashed into a barrier.
The inside southbound lane on the loop was open Wednesday night, but the southbound feeder at Denman and the loop remained closed.
Traffic was backed up for miles because of the crash. HazMat crews put dirt on the ground to soak up the diesel fuel that spilled on the highway and into the parking lots of nearby businesses.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt. No one else was involved in the wreck.
