Drug-free organizations are rallying to get the City of Lufkin to pass a distance ordinance that would keep alcohol from being sold in close proximity to schools, churches, and daycares.
Recently, Angelina County has passed the same ordinance, however, the City of Lufkin has not, yet.
Janet Taylor, with the Angelina County Chamber Coalition, hopes that the city will pass an ordinance so that alcohol will not be sold close to younger children, and to keep it away from churches. She says Lufkin residents should write their city councilmembers to address the issue.
