From the sweltering jungles of the South Pacific to fifty below zero temperatures in Korea, Ken Oxford fought for our freedom in two wars. Oxford was only seventeen when he joined the Marine Corps in 1943, just in time for some of the biggest battles of World War II.
Oxford helped take the islands of Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian and Okinowa from the Japanese. In 1946, Oxford returned home, only to be called back to active duty in 1950. Oxford is one of the legendary "Frozen Chosin", those few who survived the onslaught of the North Koreans and Chinese in Korea's Chosin Resevoir, where temperatures reach fifty below.
Oxford was wounded at Enge in Central Korea but remained to fight in numerous battles including "Punchbowl." Ken Oxford's home in Van is filled with memorabelia from both World War II and the Korean War.
