by Larry Little Saturday the Zavalla Volunteer Fire Department drove different trucks in the parade. The trucks they drove last year are now a pile of rubble, but the department is in a recovery stage. "We made some pretty good strides. We've got the outside of our building up and we are fixing to start on the inside. We've received a grant from the Pineywoods Foundation and the Forest Service for new protective clothing," says Richard Brunk with the ZVFD. Richard Brunk says though several departments have donated the department still isn't at 100 percent. "Probably by spring we will be better than we were before of course you can never replace what you lost in a fire, but by spring we will be better than what we were," says Brunk. Brunk says the fire crippled the department, but it didn't stop service thanks to other East Texas fire departments.
