Texas Landlords Sue Over Immigration Law

Some landlords in a Dallas suburb aren't happy with a new law passed by their City Council.

The apartment complex owners are asking a federal judge to block the law, which bans renting to illegal immigrants. It's set to take effect January 12th.

Last month, Farmers Branch City Council members also voted to make English the city's official language and to allow local authorities to screen suspects in police custody to check their immigration status.

A city council member has said he expected the laws to be challenged in court.

Farmers Branch has about 28-thousand people. About 37 percent are Hispanic.
