Austin Westlake offensive lineman Matt Nader is thankful to be alive this Christmas. Though the senior will never play football again, he watched his Westlake teammates from the sidelines with a smile on his face. Nader suffered a lethal arrhythmia during a football game in September. Now Nader can only watch the game he loves.
Nader was set to be a Texas Longhorn before his heart problems. Longhorn Head Football Coach Mack Brown is honoring Nader's scholarship.
"Coach Brown has actually offered me sort of an assistant coaching job," Nader told Fox Sports Southwest. "So when I get there I'll be learning the offense for the first year. Once I've learned the offense and am able to teach it... I'm going to actually help coach the offensive line."
