More Than Pageant Winners

by Larry Little

It's been 50 years since Sylvia Davis was crowned Ms. Lufkin. "I was Ms. Lufkin 1956 and that was the year they had the Ms. Texas Pageant in Lufkin and I was fortunate enough to be able to go on a tour all over Texas and invite all the other pageant winners come to Lufkin, Texas," says Sylvia Davis.

Saturday afternoon proudly wearing their crowns and smiles, pageant winners from Ms. Texas, to Ms. Lufkin, to Miss. Lufkin 1956 greeted admirers at the Lufkin mall. "It's been absolutely amazing. It's been the greatest year ever and I'm sad to give up my title. The Lufkin community is so great and I've learned so much this year so it's been great," says Miss Lufkin, Adrianna Nelson.

These women say there is so much more to being pageant winners than just having a beautiful appearance. They believe pageant winners should be upstanding citizens in the community.
