Fewer Accidents, but Still Dangerous Bridges and Overpasses

While the accidents are fewer, there's still plenty of ice on bridges causing problems.

Tuesday, Lufkin police responded to 43 accidents. Today, there have been eight accidents, with more expected as the conditions worsen. Icy conditions continue to increase on bridges and overpasses.

In fact, the high overpass at 59 South and the loop by the Lufkin mall is closed.

Lt. David Young, of the Lufkin Police Department, said, "On these bridges and overpasses, a lot of these accidents were caused when people tapped their breaks and lost control.  Many of the wrecks we worked yesterday were one-car accidents where people started sliding and bounced off guardrails."

The overpass by the Lufkin mall is expected to re-open sometime Thursday.
