Frank Melton Hospitalized

Former KTRE anchorman, general manager, and CEO Frank Melton underwent a successful triple bypass on his heart this morning at Trinity Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler, Texas. The procedure lasted six hours and there were no complications. Melton, who is currently mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, is currently resting under the watch of his medical team.

Melton had been preparing for a defibrillator implant, but the defibrillator surgery was cancelled once artery blockage was discovered. Melton was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in late 2005.

It could be several weeks before the mayor is able to return to work in Jackson, but he is expected to resume his regular schedule when released from the hospital.

Robert walker, who is the Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Jackson, will serve as acting mayor until Melton returns.

Walker says, "We're all praying that everything goes well and that he hurries back to Jackson."
