Valentine's Boxes for the Troops

by Larry Little

Saturday, volunteers from the Lufkin American Legion Auxiliary spent their morning packing dozens of Valentine's boxes for service men and women.

"They are going to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, in addition to the troops from Lufkin, Central, and Huntington.  We also support the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad," says Rita Redd.

Some of the boxes are for troops from East Texas, but these volunteers say no service person is left behind in their mission to support the troops.

"They need support. They need to know we care about them," says Redd.

Volunteers say troops are very appreciative for the support, and their greatest reward is when they receive thank you letters from Iraq and Afghanistan.

"We get cards and letters from the troops saying they love to get the cards and letters from the kids. It is very special to them," says Redd.
