Familiar Face In Nacogdoches Will Be Seen No More

A familiar face to downtown Nacogdoches businesses and many residents will no longer be seen on the city streets. Opal Dell Wade, a woman who walked everywhere and never failed to yell out a hearty ' How are you?' has died of cancer. Opal frequently visited the Nacogdoches Police Department and downtown businesses.   They would give her a cold glass of water or soft drink on a hot summer day, or provide her a warm place to rest on the coldest day. A favorite lunch spot was Butcher Boy's.

Opal had a home, but no transportation. She would walk everywhere. She would often ask for favors of special meals and perhaps a dollar, but she willingly and politely accepted a refusal. Opal had more friends than she may have truly realized.  She was visited by many people during her last days at Westward Trail Nursing Home. She told friends she was born in 1959.
