7 Year Old Fights Cancer with Community Support

The past few weeks have been difficult for 7 year old Avery Arnold. Doctors diagnosed him with cancer  two days before Christmas. "Well it sort of turned our lives upside down. It's kind of been just a world wind of emotions just trying to get through the ordeal, just trying to deal with him being sick and everything," says Pastor Randy Arnold.

Doctors recently removed one of Avery's kidneys and now he is taking chemo treatments, but at times young Avery is able to smile though his pain. "A friend of mine said when we first learned Avery had cancer he said look for the good in it. I really didn't understand what he meant at the time," says Pastor Arnold.

Saturday Randy Arnold saw the good as dozens of East Texans showed support by attending a garage sale benefit for Avery at the First Baptist Church in Douglass, where Mr. Arnold is the pastor. "The Lord has just opened my eyes and shown me the outpouring of love, not only from this community but from so many churches in Nacogdoches and so many people across this East Texas area.

Another garage sale benefit will be held next Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Douglass.   A fund is set up at Regions Bank to assist the Arnold family.
