East Texas Job Fair

Dozens of people showed up at the job fair looking for employment opportunities. And with representatives from 25 companies here, they had plenty of choices.

"I just need a job. I got laid off a two weeks ago. So I'm just looking I guess," job seeker Michael Vohs said.

"That's what I want: a job. Other than that, it's a good experience because you get to meet different people, so I'm enjoying it," said job seeker Arlington Mark.

Some of the most sought after jobs in East Texas right now are in the manufacturing industry, and there's a reason why.

"I would say longevity. They look for employers to make a career. In other words they don't want to go from employer to employer. So they'll look for a lot of the manufacturing industries," said Workforce Solutions of Deep East Texas' Samuel Gardner.

The unemployment rate in East Texas is now less than five percent. That's actually low, compared to some other parts of the country.

"I would attribute that to the number of employers in this area. The number of employers in this area is vast, high, and continuously growing," Gardner added

But for those needing employment, a job fair like this can be a big help.

"It's a win-win. It's a win when you hold a job fair like this. The employees can come to one location and see a lot of different employers, and the employers can have a lot of people coming in that are looking. So hopefully it works out for both. The employees and the employers," Workforce Solutions of Deep East Texas' Job Bunn said.
