Work Comes To Halt At Lake Naconiche

Some big plans to improve recreational opportunities in East Texas are in doubt. Work crews at Lake Naconiche in Nacogdoches County have been pulled from the project.   The move comes after surprising news about the project's future funding.   The lake project is included in a massive elimination of millions of federal dollars in earmarked funding by Congress. The measure now awaits the President's signature.

In all, the county was expecting to receive 2.4 million dollars to complete the project and build a park. Nacogdoches County Judge Joe English said, " This is a big blow for the county, but if it comes down to it, we're gonna do everything we can to continue to make sure that project is completed."   Land agent George Perry Campbell said,  " It certainly puts the county and commissioners in a quandary to where they are right now. It's a confusing situation. No one knows exactly what the impacts will be."   The court is in close communication with national leaders.
