Missing Chinese Alligator Found Alive

The missing Chinese alligator apparently never left the zoo! The missing Chinese alligator apparently never left the zoo!

The Chinese Alligator that was reported missing from it's exhibit at the Ellen Trout Zoo in December of last year was found alive on Monday.

The alligator was discovered burrowed in the ground in a storage barn in the south end of the zoo by a member of the Grounds/Maintenance crew during a routine training session.

Zoo officials say it is still not known how the animal left the exhibit, but certain features of the display are being re-evaluated to prevent future intrusions by visitors or block any possible, however unlikely, escape routes.

The alligator will rejoin the others in the exhibit after its health and physical condition is evaluated by the zoo's veterinarian.
