Freedom Fighters: J.W. Gresham

J.W. Gresham faced enemy fire, imprisonment and starvation during World War Two and lived to tell his story. Inducted into the Army in March of 1944, by December, Gresham was in the middle of one of the bloodiest and most pivotal battles of the war, the Battle Of The Bulge.

On December 19th, Gresham was taken prisoner by the Germans and was imprisoned for the next five months. Conditions were dismal and there was very little food, only three loaves of bread a day for forty people. He lost sixty pounds in only five months time. In 1945, after his German guards deserted, Gresham and his buddies found their way back to advancing Allied forces.
