Fatal Accident

An East Texas man is killed after he runs off the road and hits a tree. It happened Saturday around 1:15 p.m. in the 2900 block of South Eastman road, near Neiman Marcus Parkway. Police say the driver, 23-year old Justin Allen Shaw, of Longview was pronounced dead at the scene. A blood sample was sent off for analysis, but police do not believe alcohol played a factor in the crash.

Pizza Deliveryman Robbed

Police are looking for a man who robbed a pizza delivery man in the parking lot of a local restaurant. The victim works for Bucks Pizza in Tyler. He was in the El Chico parking lot Saturday night in the 400 block of the south east loop when he says a man in a ski mask pulled a gun out and demanded all his money. Then, the robber ran away. The suspect is believed to be a black man about six feet tall. Witnesses say he was wearing a long sleeved camouflage shirt and black pants. Peach Crops Spared

Peach growers in East Texas are breathing a little easier this week, after escaping the cold weather snap. Peach producers, like Hills Orchards, north of Big Sandy say there was no significant damage to their crops during the cold snap. Some early fruit was damaged by hail in a recent storm, but because the temperature did not drop below freezing during this spell. No reports of any damage to either trees or peaches. Peach crops are harvested during late April and early May.
