Senate Approves Bill to Help Save the Railroad

State Senate members unanimously approved a bill authorizing the Texas State Railroad Authority - a partnership between Rusk and Palestine to keep the railroad up and running.

The decision means a private contractor will be able to take over the train to keep it from being turned into a museum.

Right now, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is operating the Texas State Railroad, but the train is in danger of being shut down next fall without new funding.

The Texas State Railroad provides scenic trips between the towns of Palestine and Rusk.
