Soldier Killed

He was a husband, brother, and son. This morning, an East Texas fmaily mourns the loss of their soldier. Army specialist Ryan Alan Bishop was killed Saturday. Family members in Tyler say a roadside explosive went off while Ryan was on foot patrol, just south of Baghdad. He was 32 years old.

Teacher Facing Drug Charges

An East Texas teacher is behind bars on drug charges. Thirty-four-year-old Melanie Lynn McGuigan of Waskom and another person were pulled over in Rusk County, allegedly with 15 grams of meth in their car. The Elysian Fields elementary teacher is now charged with possession of a controlled substance.

TXU Customers sue over Bills

A lawsuit has been filed in Angelina County against TXU Electric Delivery. The suit claims the electric bills of some customers have soared several times their usual rate. Most of the more than 20 clients involved live in the Lufkin and Zavalla area. The lawsuit could eventually turn into a class action. TXU representatives have previously said their billing meters are accurate.

Capital Murder Arraignment

A court date has been set for an East Texas man facing capital murder charges. Darrell Ivey is charged with two counts of capital murder. He was back in court on Monday for his arraignment. Darrell Ivey is accused of killing his financee and their unborn child in the Lufkin home earlier this year. Investigators say Ivey's fiancee was shot in the head during an argument.

Lake Naconiche Update

Nacogdoches County is planning to hire legal assistance to help in a possible eminent domain issue. Possible litigation is developing in the Lake Naconiche project. The county wants to avoid a legal battle over the acquisition of about 15 acres. An agreement over price has not been reached. A professional group is also being sought to help with wetland mitigation. The county has 10 years after the lake initially fills up to create a 176-acre wetland area around the lake.
