The annual Angelina Benefit Rodeo will kick off Wednesday night. Tuesday, members of the Lufkin Host Lions Club announced they have already raised tens of thousands of dollars for several area charities.
The Lions have spent the past month selling raffle tickets, sponsorships, and vouchers for the big event. They expect to break a record this year and collect more than a quarter million dollars for non-profit groups in Angelina County.
"Angelina County and Lufkin, Texas is an amazing place and people have always been very kind and generous," said Mike Mathis aka 'Mr. Rodeo'. "We bring a great product - the rodeo - and they come and support it and we have great charities and people here have hearts as big as Texas, and they're able to always take care of their own."
