The Department of Defense has just announced the death of an Alabama soldier killed while fighting in the war in Iraq. This news hits close to home.

Specialist Matthew T. Bolar of Montgomery died Thursday in Baghdad. He is the son of Anne and Vernon Adkins. Anne is Vice President of Marketing for Raycom Media, which owns KTRE-TV.

Matthew died from wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit during combat operations. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st parachute infantry regiment and this was his second tour of duty in Iraq.

We're told Matthew graduated in 2002 as Valedictorian from Canterbury High School in Montgomery. In addition to his parents, Matthew is survived by his sister Emma, a graduate of St. James school in Montgomery.

All of us at KTRE-TV send our prayers to Anne and her family.
