Teacher Supply Store Damaged By Fire

A fire has destroyed the inventory of a teacher supply store in Nacogdoches. The fire happened at 'The Education Center' in the 3200 block of North Street. Passing drivers first saw smoke around 6:00 this morning.

Thermal imaging cameras helped firefighters locate the fire's likely orgin in a storage area of the store. Tenants in the nearby Austin Place apartment complex had to leave their homes for a couple of hours as a precaution.

Nacogdoches Fire Chief Keith Kiplinger said, " The fire is under investigation now. It burned up the teacher supply store which is about 1500 square feet. It had heavy fire damage. The rest of the building suffered some smoke damage. We were able to stop the fire before it got to the apartments." Fire investigators are looking at some of the laminating machines used in the business. The fire is not considered to be suspicious.
