MySpace to Release Sex Offender Names has agreed to turn over the first and last names of online users who are registered sex offenders in Texas.

MySpaces will also give out information including e-mail addresses, their profiles, and IP addresses.  The information is designed to keep the Internet safe for children.

Texas Attorney General Gregg Abbott said, "These are incorrigible people who will stop at nothing to harm a child. There's only one thing we can do and that's to go out and track them down, arrest them and put them behind bars and keep them behind bars. These are people who if they serve their time are not necessarily going to behave, they could go out and pose an ongoing threat and danger to our children. We will not allow that in Texas."

Attorney generals in several other states have also requested sex offender information from MySpace.
