By Joan Hallmark - bio | email

JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) - Sam Hopkins arrived in Vietnam in 1967 at the peak of fighting. As an Army Chaplain, he held memorial services for the many soldiers killed there and regularly visited 42 separate locations where our armed forces were staioned. He often missed death only by seconds.

After 30 years in the service, Hopkins retired in 1990, thinking that he had left Vietnam behind him, But the numerous photos he had taken while in Vietnam became the basis for his book "A Chaplain Remembers Vietnam."

Proceeds from sales of the book are used for "Gold Star Mothers" to visit Vietnam where their sons had died.

"A Chaplain Remembers Vietnam" is available at Barnes & Noble in Tyler and from
