Lakes Can be Dangerous if a Storm is on the Way

by Ramonica R. Jones

Several deaths and accidents in Texas over the past few days are being blamed on severe weather, but thunderstorms can be even more dangerous if you are out on a lake when bad weather hits.

You can protect yourself and your family from boating and swimming accidents by being prepared and following a few safety tips.

Avoid alcohol when in the water. Drinking plays a role in about half of all boating accidents.

Be sure to have extra life jackets on board for both adults and children. And it's not too late to take a boater education course', either online, in a classroom or via home video. Of course, the safest advice is to get out of the water when you know a storm is coming.
