Shelby County Shooting
A shooting in East Texas leaves a Shelby county man dead and his wife recovering from gunshot wounds. The shootings happened early Tuesday morning at a home off Highway 7 West on County Road 1510. Sheriff's investigators have filed no charges and are releasing little information. The couple was taken to a Center hospital where Joel Marty was pronounced dead. Debbie Marty was transferred to a Nacogdoches hospital.
The Texas legislature passed several new laws before the session closed this week. Under one new law, Texans older than 85 will now be required to renew their driver's license and pass a vision test every two years. The new law was passed to make sure older drivers can safely operate their vehicles, but law officers know many elderly drivers still have very safe driving skills well past age 85.
Houston county authorities are looking for a sick man who has been missing for several days now. Harold Sissom is 54-years old and insulin dependent. Investigators tell us he left for work last Thursday morning around 4:30, but never showed up. Sissom has black hair and blue eyes and is about six feet tall. Sissom drives a white 1992 four door Ford Escort that is keyed all over. The license plate number is 1-0-9-F-H-N. He wears a medic-alert bracelet. Summer Community Service
Summer vacation is just beginning for East Texas students, but for some youngsters who commit crimes, summer is the start of their punishment. Kids as young as ten years old have court-ordered community service on their summer schedules. Repairing vandalism done to area schools is one of the many community service activities. This week a group of those students is working at Dunbar Primary school gymnasium in Lufkin. The gym is being re-painted. They're learning that community service is not just a slap on the wrist.

Bad Weather and Wrecks
Several East Texans are hospitalized after wet weather across East Texas caused slick roads for drivers. Nine wrecks happened along a stretch of Interstate 20 Tuesday near the Smith-Gregg county line. One accident that happened around seven Tuesday night has sent a pregnant woman to the hospital. D-P-S investigators say the woman was driving east with her husband and child, when their car hydroplaned, hitting the median wall. The husband and child were not seriously injured, however, the woman, who is pregnant, was taken to a Tyler hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. In Nacogdoches, no one was injured Tuesday when an 18-wheeler flipped over. It happened on the South street loop exit in Nacogdoches. Investigators say a truckload of heavy bags shifted and that's when the trailer flipped. Authorities don't know yet if the accident was caused by bad weather. Tyler Loop Construction
TX-DOT officials say a construction project in Tyler along the east part of Loop 323 did not go the way it was planned. Problems range from design issues to weather delays to contractor issues. Most of the business owners along the loop tell us to get by they depend on the loop traffic for their income. TX-DOT says they hope this project will be complete in late summer. Beginning in a couple of weeks, construction will begin at the intersection of Troop highway and Loop 323 in Tyler.

Police need your help today finding the two people who robbed an East Texas arcade. It happened around 11:30 Saturday night at the Touch of Luck game room on Southwood drive in Henderson. Police say a Black male and female walked into the adult arcade, pointed a gun at workers, and demanded money. The two got away with a large amount of cash. No one was hurt. A Tyler-area grocery store is hit by burglars for the second time in less than a year. It happened Saturday morning at the Two Rivers Grocery Store and Market in Big Sandy. Surveillance video show the burglars broke in through the front door with a sledge hammer. They were only able to get away with some cigarettes and change because the safe had been firmly secured after burglary last year.
