Lufkin Police Report - 05/30/07

Harassment:  300 block of Laurel.  A woman reported that she was accosted at a grocery store Sunday afternoon by a known suspect who later followed her from the store and then threw a rock at the victim's car, damaging the driver's door.

Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle:  4600 block of South Medford. A woman left her car unlocked and running while she ran into the mall for a quick errand Monday afternoon.  The car was stolen in the brief time the owner was away from it.  The car was stopped minutes later on Davisville Road near Loop 287 by a Lufkin Police officer and John David Campbell, 40, of Alto, was arrested without incident and the car was returned to the owner.

Theft:  900 block of South John Redditt.  Theft of gas occurred on May 28.  A man pumped $50.03 worth of gas and left without paying.  The clerk got a plate number and an officer is following up on that theft.

Forgery:  1500 block of Briarwood.  A man reported that his estranged wife forged his name on two checks earlier this month.

Felony Theft:  1000 block of North Timberland. Three ATV's wee stolen from a motorcycle dealership over the weekend.  The four-wheelers were stolen after a lock on the storage area gate was cut.

Burglary of a Motor Vehicle:  300 block of Ellen Trout.  Two vehicles were broken into overnight Monday. Stereo equipment, a man's wallet and some CD's were stolen from the vehicles.

Burglary of a Building:  2100 block of South First St.  Two televisions and two bottles of liquor were stolen from a restaurant in a burglary that occurred sometime over the weekend.  Graffiti was sprayed on the outside of the building during that same time frame.  It's not clear if the two crimes are related.

Credit Card Abuse:  4100 block South Medford.  A woman reported that her sister used her credit card number without authorization to obtain cell phone service.

Sexual Assault:  A man reported that he was sexually assaulted by two male suspects last week in a motel room.

Theft:  100 block of Mott.  A woman reported that her purse was stolen while she was at Grace Dunn Richardson Park late Monday evening.  She had left her purse near her friend's vehicle and it was stolen while she was in the park.

Burglary of a Motor Vehicle:  900 block South Chestnut.  A man saw two Hispanic males beside his pickup just before 9pm Tuesday night.  When the men left he noticed that his window had been broken out and his IPOD had been stolen.

Fail to Stop and Render Aid/Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle:  1100 block of Paul.  A woman pulled from a business driveway and caused an injury accident Tuesday evening.  The suspect then ran from the scene and was followed by witnesses to a nearby house.  Laura Hernandez, 20, was arrested when she was found hiding in a closet in the house in the 200 block of Arena.  The owner of the SUV that Hernandez had been driving arrived at the scene of the accident and reported that Hernandez had been driving the vehicle without permission and wanted to file UUMV charges.  Two people in the second vehicle suffered minor injuries in the accident that required treatment at a local emergency room.

Assault:  1400 block of Diana.  A woman reported that her boyfriend hit her and bit her arm Tuesday night during an argument.  The woman had no visible injuries.

Hit and Run (Misd):  3400 block of South Chestnut.   A silver car driven by a white male in his twenties hit an unoccupied pickup in a parking lot and left without giving information.  The suspect vehicle was located by Huntington Police a short time later and the driver was arrested for DWI by HPD.  The driver fit the suspect's description, including clothing description.  A warrant has been requested.

Assault:  2200 block of South First.  A man reported that his wife clawed and bit him in the leg and arm during an argument just before 3am this morning.  The man had some minor abrasions but did not require medical treatment.  The woman had left the scene.

Burglary of a Habitation:  500 block of Franklin.  A residence was broken into while the homeowner was away for the holiday weekend.  The only items noted missing were several dozen DVD's.

Criminal Mischief/Assault:  500 block of MLK Blvd.  A man reported that a known suspect shoved him and then knocked out a headlight on his pickup with a pipe Tuesday evening.

Criminal Mischief:  800 block of O'Quinn.  A man reported that a co-worker came to his home an asked to borrow some money.  The homeowner refused to loan the man money and the suspect cut the victim's tire before leaving.
