A new crime has hit Lufkin, and police want you to know about it.  It effects something many of us use everyday when we get a bite to eat: the drive thru.

Last Thursday, three Lufkin restaurants were victims of theft.  Their drive thru speakers were stolen.  The Church's Chicken on Timberland, Schlotzsky's on Medford, and Lufkin Bar-B-Q on Chestnut.

Lt. Gerald Williamson, of the Lufkin Police Department, said, "The rumors we have heard that they are using them fro external speakers on their vehicles."

We stopped by Mike's Stereo Shop in Lufkin, and he confirmed the rumors.  Blake Pollino, owner of Mike's Stereo Shop, said, "We have 2 to 3 people a week coming in to ask for them, so its becoming a pretty big thing."

Paul Stringer, owner of Lufkin Bar-B-Q, has had his speakers stolen twice in the last 30 days.  He took drastic measures to stop the thieves.  He said, "Now we take the speakers off and put it inside the building and we also have a security system."

Lt. Williamson has this advice for business owners, "We suggest that the business owners, if they have these speakers, to install a protective cover or remove them after business hours."

If you have any information about these crimes please contact the Lufkin Police Department or call Crime Stoppers at 639-TIPS.
