Strong Storms

Severe weather hit East Texas around noon Sunday. Heavy rains and high winds hit almost every county and investigators believe the bad weather could be responsible in the loss of one person's life.

D-P-S officials say Dora Castillo of Baytown was killed after a portion of a tree fell through the windshield of the car she was driving. Authorities Castillo was southbound on F-M 226 near Etoile when the accident occurred early Sunday afternoon. Four other people were inside the car at the time of the accident, but they were not injured.

All across East Texas, especially in Tyler, Palestine and Lufkin power crews are working to repair damages, but they say it's going to be a long slow process. Oncor has crews from Dallas helping with the repairs. Today about 35-hundred people are still without power in the KTRE/KLTV-TV viewing area.

In Lufkin, a local furniture store had its roof blown off. The owners of Lewis Furniture tell us that the building is a near total loss. Two cars had minor damage, but other businesses around the building were not affected. No one was hurt.

In Nacogdoches, pounding rain hit the area, with many local streets flooding. The Nacogdoches Police Department reported one fallen tree on Burrow Street in North Nacogdoches. No serious damage was reported in the city, but several trees were reported down throughout Nacogdoches County.
