Bad East Texas Weather

Severe weather hit East Texas around noon Sunday. Heavy rains and high winds hit almost every county and investigators believe the bad weather could be responsible in the loss of one person's life. D-P-S officials say Dora Castillo of Baytown was killed after a portion of a tree fell through the windshield of the car she was driving. Authorities say Castillo was southbound on F-M 226 near Etoile when the accident occurred early Sunday afternoon. Four other people were inside the car at the time of the accident, but they were not injured. American Cancer Society Ambassador

Every year, a child is named as an ambassador or Lil Wrangler for the American Cancer Society. Sunday, a room titled Lil Wrangler Room was dedicated in Tyler. Also, as a permanent reminder of these brave local children, the East Texas Childhood Cancer Scholarship fund was started. The scholarship will help pay for the colleges of these children when they get older.

Rebuilding a Local Landmark

The sound of gospel and blues could be heard throughout Nacogdoches on Sunday. All the music was to benefit the re-building of an historic structure. Zion Hill Church was built in 1914. Plans are in the works for the church to be rebuilt as an African American museum and an event venue. They say donations are encouraged.

Tyler Nightclub Shooting

Two people are injured at a Tyler nightclub after shots were fired early Sunday morning. Officers arrived at Nico's on Glenwood Drive and found the victims had been transported to the hospital by a private car. One suspect was arrested and placed in the Smith county jail. Officials say another suspect is still on the loose. The investigation is ongoing.

Teenager Stabbed by younger Brother

A stabbing involving two minor siblings leaves one person in the hospital and another in custody. Saturday night, Tyler police responded to the apartments at 32-hundred Walton street. Officers say a 14-year old boy stabbed his older 17-year old sister. The victim was taken to a Tyler hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The juvenile suspect was arrested and taken tot he Juvenile Attention Center.

Alleyfest Artist

A Kenya-born artist who now makes her home in East Texas has people at Longview's Alleyfest taking notice of her art work. Rael Eckenroed makes sculptures, jewelry and sandals. The artist handcrafts the items using bone, polished wood and bamboo, all shipped to her from Kenya. Her passion for design more than art. Rael uses proceeds from her work to support her family still living in Kenya.

Nacogdoches Art League

This weekend kicked off the 37th annual Juried Exhibition put on by the Nacogdoches Art League. The artwork of members of the League is on display at the old Opera House in Nacogdoches. You'll find anything from photography to three dimensional sculptures
