Give a Pint, Get a Pint

If you give a pint, you'll get a pint. Starting this Thursday through the end of the summer, the Stewart Regional Blood Center is offering a special bonus. All blood donors will get a pint of Haagen-Dazs ice cream after they give the gift of life.

East Texas blood centers are always in critical need during the summer months because they lose much of their donor population this time of year.

Mark Kimberley, Tyler/Lufkin Donor Center Coordinator, said, "Our blood volume goes down due to lack of high school participation. High schools account for 25 percent of our blood collections. By losing the high schools during the summer months, we lose out on about 25 percent of our inventory."

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health.

Every Thursday this summer, the Stewart Regional Blood Center in Lufkin will be open until 8:00 p.m. Starting next month, the center will be open the first and third Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
