Juneteenth Celebrations Begin Saturday in Lufkin

It is a time set aside each year to celebrate the end of slavery and Juneteenth celebrations are happening this weekend all across East Texas.

Juneteenth activities in Lufkin kick off Saturday in north Lufkin with a parade at Brandon Park. Parade entries will line up there at noon.

The Friendship Social Club will host its annual Juneteenth program and barbecue dinner at Brandon Park next Tuesday. That is the actual Juneteenth holiday.

As always, the event is free to the public and everyone is invited to celebrate the day Texas slaves got word of their freedom. Tuesday's celebration begins at 10:00 a.m. and will end around 5:00 p.m.
