Runaway Bull Shuts Down Traffic in Lufkin

by Ramonica R. Jones

Lufkin police officers spent part of their day looking for a bull. Part of the loop in Lufkin had to be shut down after the bull escaped from a trailer.

The animal's owner was headed north on the loop when the back of the trailer swung open. When he pulled over at the Denman exit, the bull ran off into the woods. Officers and witnesses all helped in the chase.

Lydia Cantrell said, "The cow hit the loop and we were doing everything we could to avoid a wreck and to keep the cow from getting killed. We had been chasing this cow for an hour and a half or longer. I ran into a business and told them 'please, call the police'. The lady thought I was joking; I said 'no, ma'am, please get off the phone and call the police'."

After several hours, three cowboys finally caught the runaway bull. The bull was not hurt during his escape. That section of the loop is now open.
