The Nacogdoches Chamber luncheon hosted Senator Robert Nichols and State Representative Wayne Christian who provided their legislative updates. Both are Republicans.
Senator Nichols of Jacksonville is proud his bill asking for a two year moratorium on toll roads passed. He explained the period will be used to obtain more public opinion on the issue. Nichols said, " We established a mechanism of a group to do a study. Three by the governor, three by the speaker, three by the lieutenant governor to work from now and the next session. Public hearings around the state to make recommendations on what the state should do to move forward. " Nichols is wanting better protection for citizens on roads that are being transferred to private entities.
Representative Christian of Center is pleased that a morality code passed. One law allows Bible study in the school. Another gives students more religious freedom without causing a liability to educators. Christian said, " So we have saved our schools and school boards and teachers from being afraid of lawsuits and now if there is a lawsuit it will be filed against the Attorney General of Texas and that protects our schools, our local teachers, out local administrators."
