Radio Field Day

by Christa Smith

Today at the American red cross office in Lufkin, local radio operators met to participate in the annual field day.

For many years this has been a tradition with these operators.  Once a year they get together to practice their skills and catch up.  Jeanie Miles, radio operator, says this year is important because of all the new operators in the group who all need to be ready, in case there's an emergency.

One of the main reasons for field day is to test the radio equipment.  It also helps to prepare the operators in case of an emergency and ensures all equipment is working properly.   The group will be at the Red Cross until noon on Sunday.  They said anyone is welcome to come by.  You can even test out the radio yourself.
