Blood Drive Planned for Critically Hurt Fireman

Friends, family members and colleagues of a young fireman seriously hurt in a weekend accident are organizing a blood drive in his honor.

Tuesday morning, doctors amputated one of Carey Allen's legs. The 19-year-old Apple Springs volunteer fireman was run over by a truck near Groveton Saturday. At the time, he was assisting victims in an unrelated wreck at the same location.

Allen is being treated for external and internal injuries at a Lufkin hospital. A blood drive will be held from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. this Sunday afternoon at the Apple Springs V.F.D. on Highway 94.
